DeNovo Decision consists of four 90 minute simulations (called Fact-Sets).
After a brief introduction by the trainer, participants receive a set of instructions specific to the Fact-Set. Participants work through the instructions together. After the instructions have been read and understood, each participant receives a small booklet containing all the materials he or she needs to participate. Depending on which Fact-Set is used, participants may or may not have any preparation time, or may or may not have had prior reading.

Each of the Fact-Sets contains a series of memorandum. The memorandums contain material that is specific to participants and material that is common to the group. The executive will conduct a briefing or series of briefings. Prior to each briefing, participants have time to read their memorandum and prepare for the briefings. During the briefings (and during the preparation periods) participants make presentations, answer pointed questions from the executive, argue their points of view, form alliances, and gather information to support their case and over come objections from other who have conflicting points of view.
At the conclusion of the Fact-Set, the decision maker is required to issue a supportable decision independent of history. Following a debriefing period, participants then enter the training phase of the program. DeNovo Decisions training is called "Sequential Leadership Training". Each of the Fact-Sets focuses on a different set of skills. As participants go through the four Fact-Sets, they work on new skills sequentially and the prior skills in a new setting. Sequential Leadership Development is repeated, experiential learning with sequential opportunities to practice leadership skills in increasingly complex forums.
